In Cripple Creek, Colorado, an equipment malfunction at a gold mine setup for tourists caused 1 death and 12 to be trapped underground.
The elevator was descending into the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine, which is near Cripple Creek, Colorado. It had a mechanical issue at 152 meters below the surface. The entire mine is about 305 meters below the surface and the 12 survivors are safe and communicating with authorities.
Rescuers are working to get the elevator working once again, but might use rope if needed.
The mine was opened in the 1800's and closed in the 60's but operates tours.
