Today, in Los Angeles, California, the robotaxi company Waybo has introduced computer-driven vehicles in the city. Although they started a limited run 8 months ago, they've now expanded and there is a wait list of about 300,000 people wanting to ride in these taxis.
All you'll need is a smartphone, their app, and a credit card to link for account payment.
These computerized cars are the beginning of jobs that will disappear from conventional goods and services.
In 15 years, human-driven cabs could be a thing of the past. The costs are compelling: The vehicle works directly for the company, as many hours as possible, without any rest period or chance of theft.
With Tesla promising to launch their Cybercab in 2026, the future of driverless vehicles is starting to build up. Waymo has lost about $3.3 billion dollars during the first 9 months this year - an incredible amount of money has been poured into their driverless systems. A year ago, the company lost $4.3 billion dollars.
This is clearly not a cheap investment with short returns. From automated cabs, it might eventually turn to airplanes, trains, and even bus transportation.
Eventually, the only jobs in the transportation industry not yet affected would be the trucking industry. And just know, many companies are willing to invest in driverless cars if their bottom line can promise quick returns and unbelievable efficiency.
Time will tell if Waybo is truly successful. Tales of driverless vehicles stuck in traffic jams amongst other driverless cars have gone viral on social media.
