The Syrian government has collapsed, according to multiple news sources close to SNN. This brings an end to the Assad's family 50-year rule in Syria. President Basher has been overthrown, according to a video statement aired by a group of men on television. Many detainees in jails have been freed.
"Operations Room to Conquer Damascas" was the name of their organization - called on all opposition fighters and citizens to preserve the state but ensure 'that Syria is still free.'
News reports indicate that Assad has fled the capital.
The police headquarters in the capital was abandoned. Doors were left open and no officers were inside. An army checkpoint was abandoned, uniforms were left on the floor. On the ground were pictures of Assad's face.
Rumors are the ex-President is out of the country. The Syrian PM Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali did not know where Assad was located - and if he was even still in the country.
President-elect Donald Trump said the U.S. should stay out of fighting in Syria.
