Online Dating: It's Worse Now than it ever was

Our investigative journalist began with Tinder this week as I signed up for a 6-month try using their "Tinder Gold" subscription. I wanted to see how truly bad online dating was since the last time I took a kick at the can in 2021.

It got a hell of a lot worse since then. Most matches were people masquerading as other people, using photos taken from facebook, twitter, or instagram. They start by asking you to move off the Tinder application and onto Whatsapp or texting.

And if you do, they then tell you they're into finance and crypto investments. Then they begin selling you into buying non-existent crypto currency wallets.

I spotted and reported 3 people doing this within 2 days of using Tinder. That doesn't include the people doing catfishing and impersonating other people.

In this sad world, you really have rare chance at finding someone. The big clue is attractive women who claim they are single. They then spin a story about being divorced, moving from a foreign country, or other sad sack tale. They are quick to try and entice you with charm and pictures.

All stolen from other people's social media accounts like instagram, facebook, or even twitter.

This prevalence of fraud is so high that most people won't even consider using online dating apps anymore. The random people I spoke to via texting through the app was a disdain for people.

A common complaint was the fact that Tinder does nothing to screen these people. When signing up, they scan your face. However, you can print out a color picture that can easily fool this app into making them believe you are a real person.

But in fact, they are scammers targeting people who are the most vulnerable and gullible. I will be doing a series over the next few days describing the various "people" I encounter on the application. For privacy reasons, I won't disclose the pictures being used by the people online. Most people are not aware their photographs are being used for nefarious reasons.

Stay tuned, we will have more interesting exchanges for you to review.
