Russia has warned it's citizens not to travel to the United States of America or any Western country, claiming they would be "tracked or hunted" by authorities.

Maria Zakharova, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman has issued the warning in a news briefing stating "Russians could be caught in the crosshairs of perilous relations with the U.S."

“Trips to the United States of America privately or out of official necessity are fraught with serious risks,” she said, describing US-Russia relations as “on the verge of rupture”.

Russians should also avoid travelling to Canada and US allies in the European Union, said Zakharova, describing those nations as US “satellites”.

Earlier this year, the United States of America warned it's citizens against travelling to Russia, citing "they may face harassment or detention by Russian security officials" or "strict enforcement of local laws" based on nationality.

It hasn't been since 1962 during the Cuban missile crisis when relations between the two countries were this bad. During that time, Russian missiles were on the island and within striking distance of the United States. It took diplomacy and tact to resolve this situation, but it also isolated Cuba from the U.S.
