Spending Bill Fails: Clock Ticks to U.S. Government Shutdown

The bill to stop a partial shutdown of the U.S. government failed to pass this evening, 174 for and 235 against.

The bill required two-thirds of the House chamber to pass, but did not score a majority. Only 2 Democrats voted to pass the bill, and the majority of Republicans voted it to pass.

The United States debt is roughly $36 trillion dollars, and the national debt is $1.8 trillion.

With GOP interference from Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy did not want the bill to pass. Without this bill passing, the government will run out of money. If it had, it would have been able to function until March 14.

The key difference in this bill is the lifting of the debt ceiling - something Trump is looking to have push through - preferably by President Joe Biden. We seriously doubt President Biden will attempt to change this.

The proposal was to suspend the debt ceiling for 2 years until January 2027 - something akin to giving a credit card with unlimited spending power.

Rather than bore you with the details of the 110 page document, just know that they will continue to battle over the details, allotment of money, and key areas where President Biden was hoping to put money - namely in areas of disaster relief.

Something that entitled rich billionaires seem to forget about the everyday, struggling American.
