Trump Asks Supreme Court to Not Shutter Tik Tok

President-elect Donald Trump has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to temporarily pause a ban on Tik Tok - which takes effect next month.

Trump's idea is to arrive with a 'negotiated resolution' instead of outright banning it. President Biden has repeatedly called the application a security risk and it's continued operation in the U.S.

Trump had met with Tik Tok's CEO Shou Chew earlier in December. Shou Chew also chatted with Trump on Friday evening after he requested the Supreme Court pause the ban.

“The First Amendment implications of the federal government’s effective shuttering of a social-media platform used by 170 million Americans are sweeping and troubling,” Trump’s brief stated. “There are valid concerns that the act may set a dangerous global precedent by exercising the extraordinary power to shut down an entire social-media platform based, in large part, on concerns about disfavored speech on that platform.”

Concerns about key logging, data siphoning, and outright stealing of users information has been covered in numerous news reports and online articles.
