U.S. Government Shutdown Averted: Senate is Voting

[WASHINGTON D.C.]

The House of Representatives approved a bipartisan federal spending bill today and sent it to the Senate before a midnight deadline. If it fails to pass, some parts of the U.S. government will be shutdown temporarily.

The bill did pass Democratic support today from 66% of the members, which could seriously affect government workers just before the upcoming holiday season.

President Biden is expected to sign the bill quickly if approved.

“While it does not include everything we sought...President Biden supports moving this legislation forward,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement Friday.

President-elect Donald Trump wanted to have a 2-year suspension to the U.S. debt ceiling limit. Conservative politicians won't likely approve an extension that long, and have long resisted extending the debt ceiling.

We expect Trump's incoming administration to watch spending closely - especially during the transition period.
