A brand-new $2.3 million bridge in Bhopal, India, is going viral—not because it solved traffic, but because it bends at nearly a 90-degree angle. Now, seven engineers have been suspended, a retired official is facing investigation, and the construction firms behind the project have been blacklisted.

This isn't the first controversial bridge.

Days after India Today flagged the peculiar construction of a rail overbridge (ROB) in Bhopal, which has an almost 90-degree turn, the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister admitted to the flaw and promised strict action against the builders.

The 648-metre bridge in Aishbagh, built at a cost of Rs 18 crore, features a sharp 90-degree turn, with residents pointing out that it could become a hotspot for accidents.

After several reports on the flawed design of the bridge, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said the technical fault in the construction of the Aishbagh ROB would be rectified.

"The work to rectify the technical fault in the construction of the Aishbagh ROB has already begun. Those responsible for it will be identified and action will be taken," the Chief Minister said.

Yadav said the bridge would be inaugurated only after the technical fault was resolved.
