What can only be described as lunacy and madness, a 35% tariff has been applied to Canada, effective August 1st, by the Trump administration.
The U.S. president attributed fentanyl and Canada's retaliatory tariffs as a reason for the rate.
This amount may increase if Canada applies their own tariffs in return.
In an unwinnable trade war against a country with the strongest GDP in the world, they took a hammer to a unusually nice country like Canada.
To quote U.S. President Donald Trump:
″[Canada] has many Tariff, and Non-Tariff, Policies and Trade Barriers, which cause unsustainable Trade Deficits against the United States ... The Trade Deficit is a major threat to our Economy and, indeed, our National Security!”
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has the unenviable position of working through this difficult problem.
