Live Aid 40 Years Later: Photos

40 years ago, I remembered watching Live Aid on my mom's 26 inch color television. It was one of those old Admiral television sets - you know - with a wooden surround, something from the late 70's.

As the uninterrupted music festival started, I was captured in amazement by entertainers such as Madonna, Queen, Michael Jackson, and more. It was a surreal treat to watch - and for a good cause - feeding the world.

Technically, there was two concerts: One in Wembley Stadium in the UK (London), and another at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia. About 1.9 billion people were watching this awesome event (a popular word in the 80's).

Below are photos of the musicians then and now. Some of this was sourced from Fox News.

Back then Madonna wore a suit and had dark hair.

Queen featured Freddie Mercury, wearing all white in his trademark mustache and undershirt. He performed for 20 minutes. Freddie would pass away in 1991 from aids.
Tina Turner - she past away in May 2023, but will always be remembered for her energetic stage presence.

Mick Jagger's stage swagger is legendary, and the front man for the Rolling Stones is now 81 years old - and still performing!

Elton John's legendary performance in Wembley was quite the show.

Bob Dylan, as he appeared in 1985.
And now as he appears at age 84.

David Bowie performed his song 'Heros' wearing a tidy suit. He would later die in 2016 from liver cancer at age 69.

Sting and Phil Collins shown below.

Sting now, at age 73, appears to not have aged at all.

Unfortunately, Phil Collins has not aged well.

George Michael erupted onto the stage with rockstar appear and youthful looks. He performed the song "Don't let the sun go down on me". He would die from heart failure in 2016.

Tom Petty rocked out to "American Girl" and wowed the crowed. He would pass away in 2016 at age 66 from an accidental overdose.
