If you think the role and era of traditional 'wife' culture of the 1950's is dead - think again. Many Americans are now embracing what's called the "Tradlife" culture phenomenon: Women who stay home, take care of the children, house work, and other 'virtues'. But yet, 92% of people take a negative view on this, saying it puts women back into the stone ages of authority.
With many women such as Estee Williams and Hanna Lee Yoder making Tik Tok videos promoting their lifestyle, you have to wonder if the joy is real or manufactured. Smiling on video, holding up home made bread and flowers - but is this enough?
Wearing dresses and making home-made bread may sound appealing, with many traditional wives focusing on home-making. One item brought forward was the risk of divorce and if the relationship fails, you'll have to go to work.
When the shine of any marriage or relationship wears down, bills and expenses add up - should they consider working again? Many do and abandon this way of life. They become disillusioned with the "wife" lifestyle and seek power through hard work and recognition in the work place.
A more important question should be asked is: Is her husband loyal? While she is in the kitchen, is he at the bar, flirting with God knows who? Serious questions must be answered. How long would you intend to be a 'traditional wife'? This phenomenon is similar to the fat acceptance movement: Full of sanctimonious reasons of why people are too lazy to work or be healthy.
And why should we embrace this backwards lifestyle? To go further, you would have to live in the wilderness, and far away from mainstream society. Is this narcissism or antisocial personality disorder?
Only time will tell.
