There are 3 very large wildfires burning in California - Airport, Bridge, and Line - which have lit up 4 counties.
About 114,000 acres of land has burned in the state since they started earlier this month. The fires have destroyed dozens of structures and injured 15 people. None of the fire is completely contained.
There is a high pressure system that has caused intense heat in the west for most of September, and has moved east & allowed cooler air to move in.
The temperatures are dropping by 10-25 degrees below average, and rain is expected to fall.
The airport fire started Monday in the area of Trabuco Canyon - 55 miles SE of Los Angeles. It expanded to about 23,494 acres in size.
Today, firefighters have contained only 7% of the fire.
70 miles north along the border between LA and San Benardino county, in the San Gabriel Mountains, firefighters have made slow progress after days of fire growth. They only have about 3% of this fire contained.
"Friday night, firefighters continued making great progress mopping up established containment lines, especially in the priority areas to the north in Wrightwood and to the southeast in Mt. Baldy," Angeles National Forest said on X Saturday.
There was very minimal movement from this fire, and this allowed firefighters to focus on reinforcing the containment lines and cleaning up hot spots.
