At least 60 people are dead after a devastating hurricane ripped through North Carolina, bringing high winds, rain, and extensive damage to infrastructure and homes.
There are about 400 roads closed where 11 people have died. Many homes are destroyed, with power and water being cut off for thousands.
The American Red Cross opened 140 shelters across the south east states affected by the tragedy. More than 2,000 are in these shelters, and about 1,000 people are still not accounted for.
The North Carolina National Guard rescued 119 people, with the largest being 41 in Asheville.
Many gas stations are closed in NC, long waits & few open supermarkets.
There are 300,000 NC people without power, and with very limited to non-existed cellular coverage. This has complicated the rescue efforts.
Downed trees and junk are everywhere. Roads are destroyed or damaged. The storm hit Thursday and people are still recovering. Damage estimates are in the range from $95 billion and $110 billion U.S. dollars.
