Explosive Pagers Created by Israel

Eight people were killed and many wounded when booby-trapped pagers exploded today. The pagers were ordered by Hezbollah, via a Taiwanese company.

The pagers were tampered with before they reached Lebanon, and most were a model AP924 from Gold Apollo.

The pagers contained 1-2 ounces of explosive material and a detonation switch, both remotely and local to the device. In a video seen on the NY Times website (graphic warning), you can hear the victims screaming in pain after being hit with explosives. It's terrible to watch.

Each device was programmed to beep many times before it exploded, and Lebanon's health minister said at least 11 people were killed and 2700 wounded.

The video is disturbing to say the least. Men are shown, with children in the background, at a grocery store. A few seconds into the video, a loud bang is heard, then a man falls to the ground, yelling loudly in pain.

It is said there are over 3,000 pagers that were sold by Gold Apollo in Taiwan, and apparently some went as far as Iran and Syria.

Stay tuned for this developing story.
