Hurricane Helen has strengthened to a Category 4 storm, long ahead of it's landfall on Florida's NW coastline. The storm surge and winds will have many millions of Americans nervous - some evacuating areas as we write this article.

The winds have already cut power to 450,000 homes and businesses. Governors of Georgia, Florida, Alabama, the Carolinas and Virginia have declared emergencies.

The hurricane was last tracked 190 kilometers or 115 miles south of Tallahassee Florida. It had sustained winds of 130 MPH / 215 KPH.

It's been about a year since the last hurricane - Idalia, struck Florida's west coast and caused massive damage. It also was a Cat 4 storm, however it weakened to a Cat 3 later on when making landfall.

For those who choose not to evacuate, there was a dire message delivered to facebook today:

“Please write your name, birthday, and important information on your arm or leg in a PERMANENT MARKER so that you can be identified and family notified,” the sheriff’s office in mostly rural Taylor County warned those who chose not to evacuate in a Facebook post
