More and more people are moving to large cities, and deciding that working remotely might not be for them. This causes an increase in travel, and with some people - to unbelievably awful levels.
I've known people who commute regularly 45 minutes to an hour each way from work. Over the span of 1 month, this works out to 30 hours of driving.
Driving!
People will say "I prefer the cheaper life in a remote village or town." but I will always value time over money.
But back to the 45 minute commute. Over year, you'll be driving 15 days straight - for this distant lifestyle.
It's not worth my time to consider a commute that lengthy.
This doesn't include the road raging people who tailgate, flash their high beams, or are general assholes on the road. In one year alone, my vehicle was hit by 1 scooter and 1 cyclist. Neither accidents were my fault.
Post COVID-19 has taught us nothing. Rents are increasing, vehicle pricing is crazy, and the cost of living is ridiculous. To believe in the dream is not possible. Your parents had it easy, life was good, and guess what? No one gives a damn.
Welcome to 2024.
