That Disaster of a Debate

This 90-minute trainwreck was brought to you to evaluate the candidates one last time before making that eventual selection: Trump, who lost the last election, and had a divisive and unique presidency, followed by Kamala Harris - a soft spoken, albeit kinder approach to politics.

I knew it was going to be bad when former President Trump almost refused to shake hands with Harris. You could tell by his body language, there was no love lost between either of them.

And yet, I stupidly hoped for some insightful quotes from Trump and Harris. Instead, I was met with one-offs about illegal immigrants eating pets and wildlife.

“They’re eating the dogs, the people that came in, they’re eating the cats. They’re eating the pets of the people that live there,” he said.

Harris was controlling much of the conversation, easily baiting Trump with sharp responses and calling him out. "You did in fact lose that election" she said about the 2020 final. "Donald Trump was fired by 81 million people."

And yet, Trump refused to acknowledge it. He continues to believe he won the election - still, to this day. It amazes me.

Harris managed to keep smiling, deftly saying "And I'll tell you, I believe you deserve a president that who will actually puts you first."

Trump continued to compare Harris to Biden. "She destroyed this country with illegal immigrants." and "The worst inflation we've ever had."

The ABC moderators were useless - as usual. When confronted about Trump questioning Harris as a black woman - or not - he just said "I don't care what she is, you make a big deal out of something, I couldn't care less." And for that, I believe him.

The abortion was a hot topic trigger that fired up both candidates. We won't go into details, but he was happy to have repealed Roe vs. Wade.

Harris promised to re-instate it. To be honest, I stopped watching about 60 minutes into this carnage. Did I learn anything insightful? No.

Did it change my viewpoint? Not really. After former President Trump's comments about Harris and blow jobs, I decided to pull support for him and, in his own terms, become a Canadian RHINO - Republican in name only.

I guess I turned into Lindsay Graham.
