Looking at the satellite images and drone footage from Western North Carolina is sad and shocking. The storm ripped through the state with severe rain and winds, causing flooding and damage to infrastructure and houses.

Streets are washed out and so are many buildings. What were houses lie rubble and blocks of concrete. Water was as high as roof tops in some areas.

Downed trees, powerlines, and garbage is everywhere. Empty spaces appear where cars and houses used to be. People are homeless.

And while President Biden viewed the damages on Thursday, he said the cost to rebuild will be in 'the billions'. President Biden said the federal government will cover 100% of all debris removal and emergency protective measures for North Carolina for 6 months. They'll do the same for Florida and Georgia for 90 days.

"In moments like this, it's time to put politics aside," the president said against the backdrop of a damaged Ray City, Georgia. "There are no Democrats or Republicans out here."
