When President-elect Donald Trump suggesting annexing Canada by economic force, many Canadian politicians became enraged and indignant. And, as a loyal Canadian myself, I was a bit surprised by this bold move by Trump.
Instead of throwing mud against the wall, we decided to explore the situation a little further. It's true, Canada has about 41 million people, and California has the population of 38.97 million.
One state that usually led Canada in population has been declining steadily since 2020. From a defense standpoint, it makes perfect sense. However, when you factor in the society, and the general culture of Canada - is quite unique. Now we're not saying that Canada is better than the United States of America - just different.
Years ago, I knew several Americans who pretended to be Canadians when asked by locals on vacation. "It was safer and they treated me nicely" one person told me.
When I was in the U.S. Virgin islands with my late wife in 2011, people raised their thumbs when they saw me wearing the team Canada t-shirt. Only a crazy Canadian would do that.
At the resort, we were treated nicely, but no better than Americans. And in truth, there are some places I will never visit like Cuba - due to the fact they have an economic sanction by the United States. I knew several people who enjoyed Cuban vacations. But I was never interested in contributing to a government that quite literally was chained to Russia's theme of government: Communism.
At any rate, I never took this information to be fact. I'm sure there are people in Canada that would jump at the opportunity to joining the U.S.A. If you over look the lack of government health care, baby leave, and other extras that many Americans live without -- you will be surprised.
It's true the American dollar is worth far more than Canada's. It's tough to compete with a country that is almost 10x as large as you. But still, giants like China, India, and even the European Union are competitive threats to our economy and business models.

We will respectfully disagree with the above map. Likely, you'd see Alberta as a Republican strong hold. This province has been held by conservative premiers for decades - and continues to be lead by one.
Before we begin yelling into telephones and pounding the U.S. Embassy's sidewalks, just remember, this is President-elect Trump's way of testing the waters.
And we haven't even talked about Panama or Greenland yet.
