Automatic citizenship by birthright has been restored as a judge today blocked President Trump's executive order to end it. The law, which grants babies born on American soil citizenship, has been restored. The Federal District Court Judge - John C. Coughenour, aligned with four states that sued, and signed a restraining order that blocks President Trump's executive order for 2 weeks. "This is a blatantly unconstitutional order." he said.
“I have difficulty understanding how a member of the bar would state unequivocally that this is a constitutional order. It just boggles my mind.”
President Trump plans to appeal the decision. The order stated that those children born after February 19 would no longer be treated as citizens. It would extend to babies born to mothers who are in the country legally but temporarily - like tourists, students, or temporary foreign workers - if the father isn't a citizen.
22 states have filed 6 lawsuits to stop the executive order, saying it violates the 14th Amendment.
Coughenour continued: “I’ve been on the bench for over four decades,” he said. “This is a blatantly unconstitutional order. Where were the lawyers when this decision was being made?”
President Trump's ambitious plans to end a legal and legitimate pathway to citizenship has crossed many democrats into the wrathful zone.
