President Trump said on Saturday he would urge leaders of Egypt and Jordan to accept Palestinians from Gaza. "It's literally a demolition site right now." he said.
"I'd rather get involved with some of the Arab nations, and build housing in a different location, where they can maybe live in peace for a change."
Jordan was quick to refuse, saying "the rejection of the proposed transfer of Palestinians was firm and unwavering." There was no immediate response from Egypt.
Egypt is already hosting 9 million immigrants - including refugees from Sudan's civil war. Jordan has about 700,000 refugees - mostly from Syria.
A look back at history reveals that once Palestinians were displaced in the 1960's, both Egypt and Jordan rejected having any from the region live there.
However, the neighborhoods are 90% demolished, leaving piles of concrete and rubble everywhere. People are fearful that if they should leave Gaza, they can never return.
