At Juneau, Alaska, a small Cessna airplane carrying 10 people crashed in western Alaska yesterday, killing all 10 aboard. It crashed into the sea ice about 75% on it's way Nome, Alaska.

Officials lost contact with the plane almost an hour after leaving Unalakleet. It was 12 miles offshore, or 19 kilometers, over dangerous open sea and ice.

At 3:19 PM, the radar show the airplane rapidly losing altitude and speed. They were unaware of any distress signal being enabled. All 10 were adults, on a regularly scheduled commuter trip.

Unalakleet is a small northern community of 690 people and is 150 miles south east of Nome, Alaska.

Alaska's U.S. senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan, issued statements saying their thoughts and prayers were with the passengers, rescuers, and the Nome community.
