The highest-ranking U.S. prosecutor in Manhattan has quit after refusing an order to drop a corruption case against NYC Mayor Eric Adams.
Danielle Sassoon, was promoted by President Donald Trump, quit along with two other justice department officials. The indictment was ordered last September, where Adams is alleged to have received gifts exceeding $100,000 USD from Turkish citizens in exchange for favors. Adams denied the charges.
Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove had ordered Sassoon and NYC prosecutors to drop the case - 'it restricted the mayors ability to address illegal immigration and violent crime.'
Eric Adams has vowed to work with President Trump and his administration, saying:
"I want to work with the new federal administration, not war with them, to find common ground and make better the lives of New Yorkers."
Mayor Adams met with President Trump days before his inauguration. He also attended the swearing-in ceremony on January 20th this year.
