25% Tariffs for Steel and Aluminum

That ominous feeling is back. President Donald Trump has announced today that all foreign steel and aluminum imports will be subject to a 25% tariff - regardless of any previous free trade agreements.

President Trump cited "without exceptions or exemptions" - meaning nobody will be spared this expensive importation tax.

These steep tariffs are not due to be implemented until March 4, giving time for countries to draw up their own reprisal tariffs if they choose.

Peter Navarro offered his insightful wisdom today, saying: "The steel and aluminum tariffs 2.0 will put an end to foreign dumping, boost domestic production and secure our steel and aluminum industries as the backbone and pillar industries of America’s economic and national security."

“This isn’t just about trade. It’s about ensuring that America never has to rely on foreign nations for critical industries like steel and aluminum.”

President Trump doesn't seem concerned about countries retaliating with their own tariffs, saying 'He doesn't mind."

Hamas Postponing Hostage Deal

Hamas said they are postponing the next hostage deal due to Israeli violations of the ceasefire deal. Three  hostages in Gaza are due to be released this Saturday in exchange for more Palestinian prisoners.

Hamas said Israel must return Palestinians to the North, stop firing on people, and allow Gaza humanitarian aid in all it's agreed upon forms.

In return, Israel's defence minister called the announcement "a complete violation of the ceasfire agreement."

Hamas did say the door remains open to the exchange going ahead as planned on Saturday if Israel complies.

Good progress has been made, since January 19th, 16 Israeli and 5 Thai hostages have been released for 566 prisoners.

They expect to have 33 hostages and 1900 prisoners exchanged. Unfortunately, 8 of the 33 are dead.

Text Message Scammers

Get a strange message via text asking if you pay now, you can avoid fees for tolls? Scammers are using text messaging to spam people who use FastTrak lane tolls - used mostly in California - with an enticing message: "Pay your FasTrak Lane tolls by February 3, 2025. To avoid a fine and keep your license, you can pay at," which has a website that accepts credit cards - from scammers, of course.

Don't believe the texts. Check your account online.

Apple Releases Security Update to Block Hackers

Apple has released iOS 18.3.1, iPadOS 18.3.1, and iPadOS 17.7.5 today to combat a 0-day exploit that might allow attackers to access data on a locked phone or tablet.

It patches unrestricted USB mode, which apple implemented in iOS 11.4.1 (in 2018) - which could be used to get around passcodes and encryption.

iOS 18 has a unique feature which will reboot your tablet or phone due to inactivity - and require you to enter a passcode if untouched for a few days.
