In a somber moment, 6,000 IRS workers were let go or are in the process of being terminated. Several news agencies have confirmed this information. This would remove 6% of the agency's working staff during the busy tax-filing season.

In a symbolic gesture, Elon Musk was shown holding a tool high above his head, stating "This is the chainsaw for bureaucracy" as he grinned on stage, cold and indifferent to the 6,000+ who lost their jobs.

This is a big change since the first administration under Donald Trump, where he offered NFL players McDonalds meals with free diet cokes.

Christy Armstrong, the executive IRS director, was tearful when announcing the cuts. In total, they expect about 6,700 terminations.

The IRS employs about 100,000 people, and before President Biden was in charge, there was roughly 80,000 staff employed.

University Philip Hackney said it best - who was an IRS lawyer:

"This will ensure that the IRS is not going after the wealthy and is only an agency that's really focused on the low income," said University of Pittsburgh tax law professor, Philip Hackney, a former IRS lawyer. "It's a travesty."

Here is a short list of some of the positions eliminated:

  • Revenue agents
  • Customer-service workers
  • Specialists who hear appeals of tax disputes
  • IT workers
  • And impact employees across all 50 states
And while DOGE has quickly cancelled contracts worth $8.5 billion, it should be noted that none of those contracts are for Space-X or Tesla.

We assume those 6,700 people just sit around the office or home, staring at their walls and watching youtube. Because, that's exactly what DOGE's team thinks of these workers.
