In an unbelievable moment in history, The United States of America has voted AGAINST the U.N. resolution condemning Russia for the invasion of Ukraine.
Now an outlier, the U.S. was one of 18 countries who voted against the U.N. resolution. About 65 member states, including China and Iran, had abstained from the vote.
The U.N. council adapted the U.S. led resolution calling for the 'swift end to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine."
"A simple, historic statement from the General Assembly that looks forward, not backwards. A resolution focused on one, simple idea: Ending the war," acting UN ambassador Dorothy Shea said in a speech urging member states to adopt the resolution.
It should be noted that the U.S.-backed resolution was 3 paragraphs, and did not blame Russia for starting the war with Ukraine.
From the hill:
The 16 that voted against Monday’s resolution alongside the U.S. and Russia were Israel, Haiti, Hungary, Palau and the Marshall Islands; the African countries Burkina Faso, Burundi, the Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Niger and Sudan; and Belarus, North Korea, Syria, Eritrea, Mali and Nicaragua, six countries that voted against the 2023 resolution.
China did say officially:
“History and reality show us that China and Russia are good neighbors who won’t move away, and true friends who have been through thick and thin together, support each other and develop together,” Xi was quoted as saying in Chinese state media.
The complete 180 degree shift from the Biden administration's views are remarkable.
