At midnight earlier this morning, the U.S. secret service has shot an armed man near the White House. President Trump was not at the White House during this time. Police reported an individual who was suicidal, and may have travelled from Indiana.

Members of the Secret Service located the person's parked vehicle near the White House and spotted a man nearby on foot matching the description.

When officers approached, the man brandished a firearm, prompting Secret Service to fire shots in an "armed confrontation," the statement said.

The man was transported to an area hospital, and his condition is unknown. No Secret Service personnel were reported injured, according to the agency.
