MAYANMAR - A 7.7 magnitude earthquake has killed at least 3 people, as reported by multiple news outlets today. The earthquake was centered in Myanmar, a country north west of Thailand, known for being ravaged by conflict.

A 6.4 aftershock struck mid-day.

A state of emergency was declared. A crane, which was on top of a building being constructed in Bangkok, collapsed today. Bangkok has about 17 million people in and around the city.

From AP:

“All of a sudden the whole building began to move. Immediately there was screaming and a lot of panic,” said Fraser Morton, a tourist from Scotland, who was in one of Bangkok’s many malls.

“I just started walking calmly at first but then the building started really moving, yeah, a lot of screaming, a lot of panic, people running the wrong way down the escalators, lots of banging and crashing inside the mall.”

This is still a developing story.
