Editorial: President Donald Trump and Premier Doug Ford

It was inevitable. When Ford threatened and then actioned a 25% taxation increase on energy provided to 1.2 million Americans, President Trump threatened to double the tariffs immediately.

However, cooler heads prevailed between the two business men and leaders. It seemed that after speaking with Howard Lutnick, they had a nice discussion and Ford pulled back on the 25% tax to Americans. Clearly unfair - but so are the tariffs in place by America.

From USA Today:

"Markets are going to go up and they're going to go down. But you know what? We have to rebuild our country," Trump told reporters gathered on the White House South Lawn as he promoted Tesla vehicles alongside Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and a senior White House adviser.

When you have two similar leaders trying to strike the best deal possible for their country, it makes sense to make it personal. True business acumen requires extensive patience, understanding, and sometimes, unbelievable tolerance.

Looking ahead, as if we had a crystal ball: The words uttered have consequences. A wise person once said: "It's better to listen than to speak."

We're hopeful this awful tariff situation can be resolved perfectly by the U.S.A., Canada, Mexico, EU, and China. It has to.

These barriers make it almost impossible for the free markets to surge in the United States of America. And Canada. And other places.

Time will tell. People will look back and wonder.

Is this America's greatest time?
Canada's best?

What if it is?
