A shocking discovery by the authorities this week, as Gene Hackman, 95, his wife Betsy Arakawa, along with 1 dog was found dead in their New Mexico home.
Santa Fe Sheriff Adan Mendoza said "All I can say is that we're in the middle of a preliminary death investigation, waiting on approval of a search warrant. I want to assure the community and neighborhood that there's no immediate danger to anyone."
New Mexico authorities released an affidavit, also published by the Santa Fe New Mexican, that said the deaths were "suspicious enough in nature to require a thorough search and investigation because the reporting party found the front door of the residence unsecured and opened."
"Deputies observed a healthy dog running loose on the property, another healthy dog near the deceased female, a deceased dog laying 10-15 feet from the deceased female in a closet of the bathroom, the heater being moved, the pill bottle being opened and pills scattered next to the female, the male decedent being located in a separate room of the residence, and no obvious signs of a gas leak."
Arakawa's body showed signs of death and body decomposition, bloating, and mummification in hands and feet. Authorities believed Hackman died on Feb 17.
We won't know more details until authorities have completed their investigation into the suspicious deaths. The grim reality of finding family and loved ones after they've died isn't unusual.
It can be caused by climbing dangerous mountains, or being forgotten by friends and family. A treasure trove of stories can be found on sites like Wikipedia, but they all have sad endings.
