Today President Trump signed 2 executive orders to increase the domestic supply of lumber, with a directive for the Commerce Department to investigate lumber imports and the risk to U.S. national security.

His administration is looking to streamline the permit process and expand the amount wood that can be taken from forests.

Canada has become a favorite target of the President over the past few months. Officials in the U.S. claim that Canada, Brazil, Germany are among other countries engaged in subsidies which allow unfair competition into the U.S.

We are not able to confirm this information.

Commerce secretary Howard Lutnick has started a section 232 investigation under the Trade Expansion act of 1932.

He has hinted at a 25% lumber tariff for all wood imports. The close intertwined commerce between the U.S. and Canada would be severely impacted should this unfair tariffs be applied.
