President Trump is again going after the Governor of Maine - Janet Mills, an a disagreement over transgender athletes, saying "I need a full throated apology" or they will continue to target the state until he gets one.
The governor said "We'll see you in court" when confronted over Maine's stance over transgendered athletes.
Trump was quick to post to Truth Social, saying:
“While the State of Maine has apologized for their Governor’s strong, but totally incorrect, statement about men playing in women’s sports while at the White House House Governor’s Conference, we have not heard from the Governor herself, and she is the one that matters in such cases,” Trump wrote. “Therefore, we need a full throated apology from the Governor herself, and a statement that she will never make such an unlawful challenge to the Federal Government again, before this case can be settled.”
Ultimately the state's funding through the USDA was restored, but the White House continues to threaten to halt federal funding for schools as a lever to force compliance with Title IX. This past Wednesday the White House announced it had paused the $175 million in federal funding from the University of Penn over policies allowing trans athletes to compete.
What a mess.
