Russian President Vladimir Putin said there would be an immediate truce over the Easter weekend, ending on Sunday at midnight.
Putin said “all hostilities” would halt between 6 p.m. Moscow time on Saturday (11 a.m. ET) and midnight on Monday (5 p.m. Sunday ET).
“We assume that the Ukrainian side will follow our example,” he said, adding that the truce would help Russia determine how sincere Kyiv is about wanting to reach a ceasefire.
Although this announcement was unexpected, there continues to be reports of fighting continuing on the eastern front near Kursk.
Today one of the largest prisoner exchanges was conducted between Russia and Ukraine today. This swap was mediated by the United Arab Emirates.
The US-led peace efforts by the Trump Administration has stalled, and President Trump signaled that he might walk away if the deal is too difficult to achieve.
