The shocking photos and rolling video (with bodies blurred out, thankfully), show the state of decay within the Hackman residence.
Betsy Arakawa Hackman, and Gene, were found deceased in February of this year, having been dead for weeks. Investigators found that Betsy had inquired about COVID-19 symptoms multiple times before she died, and had ordered oxygen cylinders.
Betsy had sent an e-mail to her massage therapist on February 11, 2025 where she said "Gene took a covid test after experiencing flu/cold-like symptoms."

"Our statutory and fiduciary responsibility to taxpayers requires us to find compassionate and workable solutions that respect both public transparency requirements and a grieving family's dignity," Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza said.
In an email correspondence with Katia Van Horn sent on Feb. 11 at 10:24 a.m., Betsy wrote, "So, G woke up today with flu/cold-like symptoms, did a COVID test, negative. But out of an abundance of caution, I should cancel my appt tomorrow and rebook, say, in a couple weeks, last week of Feb if something is available.."
The sad fact is one of their dogs was guarding Betsy's body when investigators breached the house. She had died from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome. Gene Hackman had passed away from atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, with Alzheimer's disease causing significant delay.
Betsy was found in the bathroom. It took investigators some time to find him. He was in the home, mummified after being dead for several weeks when he died on February 18. He didn't even know she had died, likely because of his advanced Alzheimer's disease.
The sad ending to a great actor and legendary performer, along with his wife, and 1 dog.
