Pope Francis Lies in State

 

Pope Francis's body is laid out in state inside his private chapel at the Vatican on Monday.

Public viewing of Pope Francis, who past away on Monday at age 88, will begin on Wednesday. He will be laid to rest permanently on Saturday.

Mourners will be able to visit Francis in St. Peter's Basilica, where he he last made his appearance on Easter Sunday.

Recent medical information shows he past away Monday from a stroke, which led to a coma and irreversible heart failure. He suffered from double pneumonia, and type 2 diabetes & hypertension.

He was born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, and wanted to be buried in a tomb that was 'simple, without particular decoration and with only the inscription of Franciscus.'

President Trump and first lady Melania Trump will travel to attend the funeral in Italy this Saturday. 'Melania and I will be going to the funeral of Pope Francis, in Rome. We look forward to being there!' The President wrote on Truth Social yesterday.



Italy has announced 5 days of mourning for Pope Francis in honor of him. The mourning period will run from Tuesday to Saturday, when the funeral will be held. All flags on public buildings were flown at half-staff.
