Multiple news organizations have reported a massive build-up of troops near the Ukrainian city of Kyiv. Reports of 110,000 Russian troops have been placed near the region of Pokrovsk.

Winning Pokrovsk has been elusive to Russia, becoming a tit-for-tat war of attrition. They have yet to take this city by force.
Russian President Putin has vowed to take the city, and all eastern Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk.

As Russia has clearly been stalling on their peace efforts, they appear to be unwilling to even discuss ending battle.
Why Russia is going after Pokrovsk, is due to it being a key supply road (and railroad) which connects it to other military areas.

About 60,000 people lived in Pokrovsk before the war erupted, and sadly, the majority have left the warzone. The ruined buildings, half-destroyed by Russian mortars and missiles, stand abandoned.

Per CNN:
The ISW said this was because Ukrainian troops began using drones as integral part of their defensive strategy, successfully integrating drone operators with their ground forces.

At the same time, Russia was unable to increase the number of troops in the area by much, because it was trying to contain the surprise incursion of Ukrainian troops into its own territory in the southern Kursk region.

Syrskyi told reporters last week that at one point, the Kursk operation pulled back nearly 63,000 Russian troops and some 7,000 North Korean troops.

Russian President Vladimir Putin appears to be staging up for a full scale take-over of Kyiv.
