Canadians hoping for a reprieve of the 25% tariffs will be surprised as United States of America President Donald Trump announced Canada will be subjected to a 35% tariff on any non-USMCA trade deal items.
PM Mark Carney told reporters on Monday that the trade talks are ongoing, but will not be ready in time for the August 1 deadline.
This means items are going to cost a lot more money from the United States.

Carney said earlier this month that Canada - which sends 75% of its exports to the United States - would most likely have to accept some tariffs.
"It's improbable that there will be deals without any tariffs at all," he said when asked whether Canada would escape being hit. "But there is a question about the level, there are questions about the size of tariffs."
It's not a great time. As U.S. President Donald Trump leverages tariffs as weapons to allies and enemies at equal lengths.
Albeit it will be almost impossible to strike a trade deal when the United States is trying to micro-manage it's allies with subtle threats about tariffs.
Whether or not Palestine will become a state is beyond Canada and even North American politics. This is something that should be handled by the middle east and Israel. But then again, global politics can be a very complicated situation.
President Trump is unhappy about the progress with Canada. It's a smaller country that he realizes. There's almost more people in California than the entire country of Canada. We might have a few million more - but that's about it.
Think about that.
Trying to control one of the largest borders in the world would require a massive and expensive police force. It would require a ton of A.I. and robotic cameras, expensive satellite internet, and constant monitoring.
