MSNBC finished the week being the ONLY cable news network to post total viewers in the 25-54 age demo with gains.
MSNBC has unsurprisingly beaten CNN and taken the #2 spot for this demographic primetime.
Fox News continues, at this moment, to lead all networks across for viewership. They had a strong summer, and have been the TV's highest-rated network during that period.

According to Nielsen Live Plus Same-Day data for the week of July 14, Fox News averaged 2.381 million total viewers and 238,000 A25-54 viewers during primetime. The network was down -2% in total viewers and -9% in the demo compared to the week prior (the week beginning July 7).
Fox News averaged 1.483 million total viewers and 171,000 A25-54 viewers in total day viewing. Based on its average in those measurements from the previous week, it was down -4% in total viewers and -10% in the demo.
Fox News remained in first place in total primetime viewers, but finished in second place in the demo among all basic cable networks. In total day, it remained in first place in total viewers and the total day demo.
MSNBC, in primetime, averaged 923,000 total viewers and 91,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo for the week that just concluded. The network recorded gains of +4% in total viewers and +6% in the demo compared to its average the week prior during primetime.
During total day, MSNBC averaged 557,000 total viewers and 54,000 demo viewers. This represented a +5% increase in total viewers and a +4% increase in the demo compared to the network’s average the week prior.
Among all basic cable networks, MSNBC finished in third place in total primetime viewers and ranked No. 11 in the demo. During total day, it remained in second place in total viewers and finished in 13th place in the total day demo.
CNN averaged 498,000 total primetime viewers and 79,000 A25-54 viewers in the demo during primetime for the week of July 14. It was up +3% in total viewers but down -11% in the demo compared to the previous week.
In total day, the network had 361,000 total viewers and 57,000 viewers in the demo. This resulted in a -2% loss in total viewers and a -7% loss in the demo during this daypart.
Among all cable networks, CNN ranked fifth in total viewers and was in the No. 18 position in the demo during primetime. It finished in fourth place during total day and was 10th in the demo.
When looking at these networks’ performance during the same period a year ago, when the Republican National Convention was on:
During primetime, Fox News was down by -52% in total viewers and -70% in the A25-54 demo. During total day, the network also fell by -41% in total viewers and -55% in the demo.
MSNBC was down -17% in total viewers and -36% in the demo. During total day, the network was down -22% in total viewers and -38% in the demo.
In primetime, CNN declined by -51% in total viewers and -72% in the demo. During total day, it saw losses of -37% in total viewers and -58% in the demo.
That 51% drop for CNN and 72% is dramatic.
