After the death of Aubrey's husband, Jeff Baena, this past January, Aubrey Plaza has talked about the struggles with her grief. Aubrey was seen speaking recently on Amy Poehler's podcast "Good Hang with Amy Poehler". She said this:
"Overall, I'm here and I'm functioning," Plaza told Poehler. "it's like a daily struggle, obviously."
It's the first time Plaza spoke about losing Baena, 47, to suicide.
Plaza compared her grief to the 2025 sci-fi horror film, "The Gorge."
"At all times there's like a giant like ocean … of just awfulness," she said. "It's just always there and the monster people are trying to get me."
It takes a brave person to speak about difficult subjects like death, losing a spouse, and, grief.
Having suffered trajectories with my own spouse - who sadly died from a body ruined by pneumonia and a hard fall. I'm comforted to know she's not suffering anymore.
Grief can be an isolating experience for many people. Not many want to share about that difficult subject. Instead, most people skirt around it, make small talk, and move on with their day.
With people like Aubrey and myself, it's become a normal, but sad reality of life.
We wish her the best.
"Right in this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you," Plaza told Poehler.
